Testimony received from Graham Beckett, Reading Branch
Michelle (one of my longstanding sales team) came into my office in the afternoon about one o'clock after a half hour long Evangelistic event held on our business park at lunchtime on 19 January 2011.
This event was something that I had helped organise, however in numerical terms it had been a flop - with 600 invitations given and only about 7 attendees in all!!
Michelle said that she felt that God was telling her to do something but did not know what that was. We had a long chat and I found out that she had once been a Jehovah's Witness and had some good background Bible knowledge. I got to the point when I felt I should get out my Gideon PWT (I keep a small supply in my office) and ask if she wanted to ask Christ into her heart. But I hesitated, and asked myself the 'should I ?/ shouldn't I?' question. At this point I believe the Holy Spirit prompted me to remember a conversation I had some years ago with another Gideon member when he shared with me the time when he had to decide to ask his brother-in-law whether he wanted to say the prayer of commitment on his wedding day, resulting in his brother-in-law coming to Christ the day he got married! This prompted me to ask Michelle, which I did, but she said she would rather I read the prayer.
At this point I said that it had to be a personal decision and commitment and that I couldn't say it for her. So we looked together at the Scripture verses on those back pages of the Gideon PWT and she confirmed she believed them. So I suggested that I should say the prayer of commitment, one phrase at time, and that if she agreed with each phrase, she should say it after me. This she did, and I believe that Michelle sincerely committed her life to Christ that day - about 2.30pm. Praise God for what He has done! Once again, when we are a little down-hearted and feeling our inadequacy HE comes through with the most amazing encouragements.
Since then I have found some suggestions for good Bible believing Churches in her location.
