London Scripture Blitz - September 2011

2011 London Scripture Blitz 21 - 25 September

Pictured is the initial delivery of 40,000 Bibles in preparation for the 2011 London Scripture Blitz.

Every year, there are typically over 25 million visitors spending at least one night each in London, around 120 million person-nights. In 2012, that number is expected to be higher, with the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and Queen's Diamond Jubilee all taking place.

In preparation for this, The Gideons International in the British Isles is planning to ensure that as many rooms in hotels, guest houses and bed & breakfasts as possible have a Gideon Bible placed in them ready for the flood of visitors in 2012. This will be done primarily through a London Scripture Blitz (LSB) to be held in September 2011.

We also plan to use the LSB to:

• Present New Testaments to staff in these hotels, etc.;
• Visit the emergency services to present them with New Testaments;
• Endeavour to visit any of the following places where we are currently unable to do so

1. Freshers' Fairs and schools, where we would offer New Testaments to the students;
2. Hospitals, where we would place New Testaments in bedside lockers and present New Testaments to staff:

• Engage in conversation with people as we travel around London and offer them their own copy of the New Testament.

In doing this, we will be "Laying a Foundation for Visitors to London in 2012".

The LSB Steering Group has identified the following six general prayer points.

• Open purses that the significant costs of the Scripture Blitz may be met in full.
• Open doors in hotels, hospitals, schools, colleges, universities and the emergency services.
• Open hands to receive the Word.
• Open hearts for many to take up the challenge to participate.
• Open churches to support us in this once in a lifetime opportunity.
• The Steering Group - open to God to receive strength, wisdom and inspiration for their task.
