Thailand International Scripture Blitz - February 2012
Initial report on Thailand International Scripture Blitz
Thank you for praying for the Thailand International Scripture Blitz. Your prayers were answered.
23 Gideons from nine Countries joined Thai Gideons in presenting and placing over 250,000 Scriptures in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in two weeks. We were thrilled with the openness, respect and enthusiasm with which the Scriptures were accepted by young and old.
All the Gideons were able to give a Gideon report (translated into Thai) at churches. The reception was warm and we were often invited to join in with the church lunch which followed the service.
One Gideon had a fall and head injury requiring three nights in hospital, but we praise God that he was able to rejoin the team and play a full part in Scripture distribution.
Weekdays started with a 5.30 or 6am prayer meeting, so that we could be transported to schools and universities through the notorious Bangkok traffic to set out the Scriptures. Some Universities had 10,000 students and multiple entry points, so a lot of unpacking was required before the rush of students. Sometimes we were able to set up near the student cafeteria which gave us great opportunities to offer Scriptures through the day as students came for breaks.
Remarkably, none were left behind when the students returned to their lectures.
Whether in private or state schools, the Gideons almost always received a warm welcome. Even those Principals who were initially suspicious or hesitant often ended up recommending the New Testaments to the students as we were led from classroom to classroom giving a brief explanation of the importance of Jesus’ teaching. Other Head Teachers received their personal copy of the New Testament in front of the assembled school, before the students received theirs.
Please continue to pray that the good seed will produce much fruit.
