Shields Soldiers receive new "Combat" Style Gideons Bible.
South Shields based soldiers of 205 Battery Royal Artillery (V) receive the new Combat Style Gideons Bible.
Speaking at Northfield Gardens, in South Shields the home of 205 Battery RA (V), Captain James Foster spoke of his continued pride in what those members of the 101st (Northumbrian) Regiment Royal Artillery (V), which 205 are part of, continue to achieve when deployed in support of the Artillery Regiments on Op HERRICK in Afghanistan.
He said: "I'm tremendously proud that the soldiers of South Shields continually step up to the plate and put themselves forward for tours of duty in various Operational environments. Our intent here at 205 Bty is to present each mobilised soldier going on an Operational tour the new pocket sized Combat style Gideon's bible to take with them."
After receiving the Bibles from David Hoskins (pictured) on behalf of The Gideons International, Captain Foster explained that he was sure the bibles would be a tremendous comfort to the those members of the Battery deployed overseas and who are far away from home and their loved ones.
David went onto explain that The Gideons International would like to roll out the bibles to all three services over the coming few years. It is a very ambitious project but one that Captain Foster thinks is a superb idea. He said, "Anything that can bring a little bit of succor and perhaps guidance for our loved ones serving in hostile environments is surely a very good thing. I feel it's a little book that can bring an awful lot of comfort to so many".
