World Book Day 2012
World Book Day 2012 will take place on Thursday 1 March and, according to publicity material, is the biggest celebration of books and reading in the world.
Every child in full-time education in the UK is entitled to receive World Book Day tokens, which they can exchange for one of eight specially produced World Book Day books.
From the World Book Day website:
World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The origins of the day we now celebrate in the UK and Ireland come from Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts to loved ones on St. George’s Day – a tradition started over 90 years ago.
World Book Day is a partnership of publishers, booksellers and interested parties who work together to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment of all.
Although, as an Association, The Gideons International will have no involvement in World Book Day, let us use this day as a particular focus for personal witnessing and the presentation of Personal Worker Testaments.
“Did you know that today is World Book Day, the biggest celebration of books and reading in the world? I would like to introduce you to the most important book in the world.......”
